The Thin Agent is not included in a standard VM Tools installation, so you must do one of the
following:
■
Install VM Tools with the Custom option and include the Thin Agent (also called "vShield
Drivers") in your selected components.
■
Upgrade VM Tools in order to add the Thin Agent component.
The following sections tell you how to do this manually (interactively) or automatically
(non-interactively).
Note: This guide assumes that you use vSphere Client to install the agent, but you can use other
VMware management software, as described in Installing and Configuring VMware Tools.

To install the agent interactively on a guest VM:
1. Power on the VM and check that the guest operating system is running.
2. Log in to the VM as an administrator.
