Chapter 9. Upgrading Version 4.2.3 or
4.2.4, ZenUp not in use
This chapter provides Resource Manager upgrade instructions for installations that match the following criteria.
The Resource Manager version to upgrade is 4.2.3 or 4.2.4.
The patch managment system in use is Quilt, or no patches have been applied to the installation.
The ZenUp patch management utility replaced Quilt in mid-2013, and since then, all Resource Manager recommended
patch sets have been delivered in the ZenUp-native format. If you are unsure whether your installation is using Quilt
or ZenUp to manage patches, follow these steps.
1. Log in to the Resource Manager master host as zenoss.
2. Enter the ZenUp status command.
zenup status
If the command returns a result similar to the following example, ZenUp is installed and in use. If ZenUp is
installed, proceed to the previous chapter.
Product: zenoss-resmgr-4.2.4 (id = zenoss-resmgr-4.2.4)
Home: /opt/zenoss
Revision: 367
Updated On: Mon Feb 3 12:16:39 2014
Note
The instructions in this chapter assume that the hosts to upgrade can retrieve files through the internet. To
upgrade hosts without internet access, contact Zenoss Support.
This version of Resource Manager may use new or different ports than the version to upgrade. Before
upgrading, review Appendix B, "Port requirements".
Note
Perform an upgrade in a development or testing environment before performing it in a production environ-
ment. In particular, only Zenoss-maintained ZenPacks are tested and supported in an upgrade. Test all other
ZenPacks for compatibility with this version of Resource Manager before upgrading a production environ-
ment.
9.1. Stopping Resource Manager
9.1.1. No remote collector or hub hosts
If your installation does not include remote hub or collector hosts, follow these steps to stop Resource Manager.
1. Log in to the master host as zenoss.
2. Stop all daemons.
zenoss stop
Occasionally, the stop command does not terminate all of the Resource Manager daemons. To check, enter the
following command:
