Add a Virtual Parallel Port to a Virtual Machine
Ifthevirtualmachineisconfiguredwithaparallelport,mostguestoperatingsystems
detecttheportatinstallationtimeandinstalltherequireddrivers.Someoperating
systems,includingLinux,WindowsNT,andWindows2000,automaticallydetectthe
portsatboottime.Others,likeWindows95andWindows98,donot.
To
add a virtual parallel port to a virtual machine
1 Selectthevirtualmachine.
2Makesurethevirtualmachineispoweredoff.
3 ChooseVM>Settings.
4OntheHardwaretab,clickAdd.
5IntheNewHardwarewizard,selectParallelPortandclickNext.
6Specifywhichoptiontousefortheparallelport:
IfyouselectUsephysicalparallelport,clickNextandchoosetheportfrom
thedrop‐downmenu.
IfyouselectOutputfile,clickNextandenterthepathandfilenameorbrowse
tothelocationofthefile.
7UnderDevicestatus,ifyoudonotwanttheparallelporttoconnectatpoweron,
deselectthecheckbox.

Troubleshoot ECR Errors for Parallel Ports
Whenyoupoweronthevirtualmachineafteraddingaparallelport,youmightseean
errormessagestatingthattheparallelportonthehostdoesnothaveanExtended
ControlRegister(ERC).Ifso,itispossiblethehardwaresupportsECRbutithasbeen
disabledintheBIOS.
