To install a guest operating system manually
1StartWorkstation.
2Dooneofthefollowingsothatthevirtualmachinecanaccesstheinstallation
mediafortheguestoperatingsystem:
ForaCDorDVD,ifnecessary,configurethevirtualmachinetousethehost’s
CD‐ROM/DVDdrive,andinserttheoperatingsystemmediainthedrive.
Insomehostconfigurations,thevirtualmachinecannotbootfromthe
installationCD‐ROM.YoucanworkaroundthatproblembycreatinganISO
imagefilefromtheins
tallationCD‐ROM.Usethevirtualmachinesettings
editor(chooseVM>Settings)toconnectthevirtualmachine’sCDdrivetothe
ISOimagefile,andpoweronthevirtualmachine.
ForanISOimage,connecttheCD‐ROMdrivetoanISOimagefileofan
installationdisk.
TouseaPXEservertoinstalltheguestoperatingsystemov eranetwork
connection,youdonotneedtheoperatingsysteminstallationmedia.Whenyou
poweronthevirtualmachine,thevirtualmachi
nedetectsthePXEserver.
3ClickthePowerOnbutton.
4Followtheinstructionsprovidedbytheoperatingsystemvendor .
5IftheoperatingsystemspansseveralCDs,followthesestepswhenyouare
promptedtoinsertthesecondCD:
aDisconnectfromthecurrentimagebychoosingVM>RemovableDevices>
CD‐ROM>D
isconnect.

CD.

Aftertheguestoperatingsystemisinstalled,youcanusethestandardtoolswithinthe
operatingsystemtoconfigureitssettings.VMwarerecommendsthatyouinstall
VMwareToolsbeforeyouactivatethelic
ensefortheoperatingsystem.See“Installing
